Mrs. Shirley Malcolm made a HUGE impact in SO many students' lives.  She didn't just teach piano; she taught respect to others, perserverance, self-respect, dedication, etc.  She gave the foundation for so many former students to enjoy a life filled with music and the intrinsic value in which it can provide.  She taught each of us to work our hardest, give our best, and allow the musical aesthetics to always be present in what we performed.  It wasn't about the black and white on the page, it was so much more than that.  Even after she retired, she gave back to CPS by accompanying instrumental solos and continuing her strong tradition of making true musicians.  By her coming in to help the students, many of them went on to do outstanding performances at the state level.  Some students even feel that she is the one who stretched them as a musician and, in return, made them realize that they had a God-given talent and they are still, to this day, involved in music in some form.  If it wasn't for her, I can honestly say that I do not think I would be where I am today, doing what I get to do, without her guidance, caring heart, and ability to see the potential in EVERYONE.  Mrs. Shirley Malcolm is DEFINITELY A HIGH FLYING EAGLE!!!
