Charles should be recognized for his life of public service. Charles was a highly regarded multi-talented individual who used those talents in service to his community. Although his “fame” is not at a national or international level, his contributuion to society as an adult reflects the value of community commitment learned when being part of the Colby community as he grew up.

Charles Moore arrived in Silverton in 1969 with his wife Penny with the intention of only staying two years. Thirty-four-years later, he had made a profound impact on the city's institutions and its people. Charles began his life in Silverton as a science

teacher, a position he held for eleven years. He also served his community as a leader in both the police department, and as the San Juan County Under Sheriff from 1987 to 2003. Charles also contributed as a member of the San Juan Regional Planning Commission, the Silverton Board of Trustees, the Silverton Ambulance Association, and the Treasurer of the Silverton Congregational Church.
